I’m Melanie Jones and I set up my nutritional therapy business ‘Spectrum Nutrition’ after obtaining my diploma in Nutritional Therapy from the College of Naturopathic Medicine in Manchester in July 2013.
My career has been varied. I initially graduated from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh with a first class honours degree in pharmacy and worked for 20 years in a variety of roles in hospital and retail pharmacy and also in the pharmaceutical industry. During this time, my personal health and fitness along with that of my family was of paramount importance to me so I was always an avid reader of nutrition articles and spent much of my spare time devising healthy recipes for family and friends.
In 2007, after training with Future Fit professionals I left the pharmacy profession and set up my own Personal Training and group fitness business, ‘Take-2 fitness’. Being able to help people become more fit and active, without relying on drugs was hugely rewarding to me so I decided to pursue my interest further by enrolling in the Nutritional Therapy course.
There will always be a lot to learn in this field but I now feel that I have completed a cycle of learning, moving from our strict medical ‘pill for every ill’ approach to a more holistic individual approach to wellness and optimal health for clients.
In May 2016, after just over 2 years of studying with the Institute of Functional Medicine in the USA, I have been awarded Certified Practitioner status. this involved submitting a case study and undergoing a rigorous testing procedure.
At present, there are only 13 IFMCPs in the UK.
